Initial Situation

The ATOS Klinik has been around for almost two decades and offers its patients top-quality medicine and outstanding service. This also includes cutting-edge technology, both in treatments and in the infotainment area. After all, good entertainment contributes to wellbeing and a more rapid recovery. Thus the existing television system was to be replaced by innovative IPTV, including individual monitors at the patients’ beds.

Requirements

The patients’ rooms were to be equipped with modern IPTV (Internet protocol television) during the course of rebuilding work at this private hospital in Heidelberg. At the same time, during the expansion it was necessary to fall back as far as possible on the existing network; this was to avoid costly cable-laying. Furthermore, they wanted to offer patients individual, top-quality infotainment through their own monitors. Intuitive handling through simple menu navigation was a requirement, as was the option of increasing the IPTV system.

Result

The ATOS Klinik in Heidelberg accessed the Macnetix IPTV system when equipping a total of 15 rooms (28 beds). Each patient now has his/her own monitor, and a Bewatec LCD flat-screen, which can be operated intuitively using a simple menu bar. The software company Macnetix took on the hardware configuration as well as control through a central management system, which manages the content. And what are the benefits for the clinic? The hospital management agrees on which programs are to be shown. In addition, the system can be expanded through an Intranet interface to include additional content such as physiotherapy exercises or the current food menu. Currently, patients receive almost 60 radio stat ions and television programs, all of which are in the best digital quality. Furthermore, it is possible to welcome patients in their own language and to reserve individual program places according to the nationality of the guest.
